Introducing “Lily White”

Introducing “Lily White” and the “Happy Father’s Day Football Bash,” June 15 at the MCC

We‘ve been hearing a lot lately about the football promotions being conducted by one “Lily White,” and we got a chance to meet the brother in person this morning when he visited our sports desk to seek some publicity for his upcoming “Happy Father’s Day Football Bash” at the MCC Grounds.

Lily White’s official name is Edward Charles Rubio, who returned home a couple years ago from the U.S., and he says since coming back he has been making himself busy holding small football promotions for the youths in Belize City. His most recent event was a “Kids Day” at Holy Redeemer Play Yard at the corner of Hyde’s Lane and North Front Street, which took place on Labor Day, May 1.

Edward is “Old School,” and still carries that passion for “peace and love” and the generous spirit typical of his/our generation. He tried to pull me out of retirement, and I promised to start doing some running; but no guarantees yet about the Father’s Day match.

Lily White’s flyer, soliciting donations from the public to cover expenses for his promotion, says it all: “I am trying to let the kids learn respect, love and understanding… I need a few things to make the kids dreams come true… I need water.. and food; I hope you can find it in your heart to support my event to put a smile on the kids’ faces on Father’s Day.”

Lily White’s Father’s Day Football Bash will be at the MCC Grounds on Sunday, June 15, starting at 9:00 a.m., and will feature a youth preliminary – Lake-I Youth vs Brown Bombers Youth, followed by the Over-40 nightcap, Yabra Culture vs Lily White All Star.

“There will be lots of food and drinks; pay $5.00 at the gate and receive a food ticket. There will be prizes and give-aways. Come out on Father’s Day and support Belize’s best Over-40 football players on Father’s Day.”

Lily White can be contacted at 624-2640 or 636-0939.
