GeneralJason Sutherland, 29, murdered in yard on southside

BELIZE CITY, Fri. May 4, 2018– Jason Sutherland, 29, a laborer of Fabers Road, Belize City, was killed around 8:30 last night in Sutherland’s yard, at the corner of Fabers Road and Central American Boulevard.

Information to us is that Sutherland was socializing in his yard along with friends and relatives. His sister told us that he was talking with a friend of his near the gate when a man approached him and asked for some marijuana.

Sutherland had gotten the marijuana and was about to hand it over when the gunman, who had entered the yard, shot him several times in the abdomen. As Sutherland was trying to escape by running under a food table, the gunman shot him in the back.

This caused him to fall down and the gunman used this opportunity to stand over him and shoot him 9 more times in his body.

The gunman then fled the scene.

Upon hearing the gunshots, Sutherland’s companions scattered for cover. After the gunman escaped, they quickly called the police and they rushed Sutherland to the hospital. Unfortunately, Sutherland was declared dead on arrival.
The motive for the brutal murder of Jason Sutherland is unknown. Those who knew him said that he was very friendly and caring.

Sutherland leaves behind 25 brothers and sisters as well as his 9-year-old son.

Sutherland’s death occurred a little over 24 hours after 5 persons were shot in Belize City, including a woman. Luckily, none of them were killed.

DCP Chester Williams mentioned that they have begun an investigation into the shooting of Sutherland and are looking for a man from Belize City.

Sutherland’s family stated that he was the second son in the family to be taken away by gun violence. In 2011 his elder brother, Andrew Moses, 32, was shot and killed on Kraal Road.
