BELIZE CITY–The New Year is just around the corner, and with it is the 25th running of the KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic from Corozal Town to Belize City. This “KREM Big Shilling Classic” promises to be a big one indeed, with a bunch of foreigners expected to participate, and with the “fattest” array of prizes and station prizes to excite the competition along the way. Aside from the big finishing prizes and a long list of station prizes in cash and kind (see advertisement elsewhere in this issue), all eyes will be on the five (5) different station prizes of $1000.00 each, that are expected to spark some major turbulence along the course of this Classic. Those Big 5 will be at San Roman Village (donated by Freetown Drug Store), Orange Walk Town Bypass (donated by Hon. Johnny Briceno and Jaime Briceno), Digicell Cell Site Carmelita (donated by Digicell), Maskall Junction (donated by Hon. Edmund Castro), and Puma Service Station Ladyville (donated by Puma Energy Ltd.).
Defending champion is Byron Pope (Benny’s Megabytes); and defending female champion is Shalini Zabaneh (Sagitun).
KREM Radio and T.V. will feature a special pre-race show on Tuesday night from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. with host Kwame Scott and Fitzgerald “Palas” Joseph. You don’t want to miss that.
