O.W. girl, 12, shoots herself after scolding

GeneralO.W. girl, 12, shoots herself after scolding

The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 19, in her parents? home, located on San Francisco Street in Orange Walk Town.

The sound of a gunshot, which was followed some time later by a loud scream for help from the mother, was what alerted neighbors to the fact that something terrible had happened in the Cajun home. By the time neighbors rushed over, a traumatized mother was holding her apparently lifeless daughter in her arms.

Police, when they arrived at the scene, found Kiara with a single gunshot wound in the middle of her chest. She had not even taken off her schoolbag. Lying next to her body was a .38 revolver belonging to her father, Police Corporal Vidal Cajun.

Kiara was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident sent the child?s mother into shock, and she had to be hospitalized.

Today the Orange Walk police say that they are investigating whether or not Cpl. Cajun had properly secured the loaded gun he had been keeping inside the home.

According to police, Kiara?s mother, Camy Cajun, has been unable to say what really transpired. A post-mortem conducted yesterday, Tuesday, certified that Kiara died from cardiac tamponade syndrome as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

A source Amandala spoke with from Orange Walk Town said that on the day of the incident, at about 5:00 p.m., Kiara had not reached home from school and her mother went looking for her.

Camy made several checks in the neighborhood and even spoke with Kiara?s close friend, who was already home. No one had seen her.

Cajun later found her daughter speaking with a boy at the corner of Santa Teresita and San Narciso Streets.

Camy Cajun, who is a social worker, became annoyed when she saw her daughter in the company of the boy, and she scolded her in the boy?s presence then sent her home.

Kiara did as her mother told her, but it seems that when she arrived home she searched for her father?s gun and found it, and shot herself.

The gun, we understand, was hidden in a corner space of a sofa chair in the parlour.

By the time her mother got home, Kiara had already shot herself.

Kiara, within a week?s time, would have been walking down the aisle to the popular ?pomp-and-circumstance? steps, as one of a hundred graduates from the class of 2006 at San Francisco Roman Catholic Primary School.

At the time of the incident, Kiara?s father was at a football game in Orange Walk, and there was where he got the news of his daughter?s death.

Kiara was the eldest of two children for Corporal Cajun and his wife.

Funeral services for Kiara Cajun were conducted yesterday in Orange Walk Town.
