Petville farmer, 51, killed in hit-and-run accident

PETVILLE, Orange Walk District, Mon. June 4, 2018– At about 7:00 last Thursday evening, Melito Macario Medina, 51, a farmer and resident of Petville, was walking home on the San Estevan Road.

Medina had already crossed the ferry and was almost home when he was knocked down by a vehicle from behind. He was dragged under the vehicle for a short distance, then the vehicle sped away.

Medina suffered massive head and body injuries as a result of the hit. People in the area who were walking on the road saw him lying motionless on the roadside and called police.

Police took him to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

An investigation has begun to find the hit-and-run driver.

Presently, the type of vehicle that hit Medina is unknown.
