Police lead at Week 8 of PLB 2015-2016 Opening Season

SportsPolice lead at Week 8 of PLB 2015-2016 Opening Season

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Nov. 9, 2015–Only 2 of the scheduled 3 Week 8 games were played over the weekend in the Premier League of Belize Opening Season 2015-2016 regular season. The Belmopan Bandits FC vs Verdes FC match at the FFB Stadium on Saturday night was suspended due to some problems with the Verdes team roster. It was a great disappointment to the couple hundred fans in attendance, some of whom had travelled great distances to attend the match. This would now make two back matches remaining for defending champions Verdes FC, one against Placencia Texmar Assassins FC and the other against Belmopan Bandits FC. Of course, that still depends on the decision of the league. A PLB release today said that “the game between Belmopan Bandits vs Verdes FC is being reviewed by the League’s Disciplinary Board,” and that “after a decision has been made” they will be “informing the general public later on this week.”

At the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence on Saturday night, Placencia Assassins FC got the 3-2 win over visiting Belize Defence Force FC. Veteran star striker James Flores put BDF in front at the 6th minute; but the Placencia boys came back strong with goals form Luis “Baaka” Torres (18’ & 47’) and Ashley Torres (31’), for the 3-1 lead, before a Jesus Urbina own goal (75’ OG) brought BDF within a goal of tying the game. The win puts Placencia in good position to claim one of the top 4 playoff spots, and leaves BDF, with only 2 games remaining on their schedule, on the brink of missing playoff action.

In the other weekend game, on Sunday at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio, home standing Police United drilled the struggling Wagiya squad, 7-0, with goals from Brandon Cacho (14’), Darren Myers (19’), Harrison “Cafu” Roches (23’ & 78’ PK), Devon Makin (57’) and Norman “Tilliman” Pipersburg/Nunez (82’ & 89’). The win puts Police United at the top of the standings with 15 points (see standings below), and makes them the first team to definitely seal a spot in the playoffs. With only 2 games remaining, BDF can only attain a maximum of 14 points.

Upcoming Week 9 schedule:

Saturday, November 14
7:30 p.m. – Placencia Assassins FC vs Belmopan Bandits FC – Michael Ashcroft Stadium

Sunday, November 15
3:00 p.m. – BDF FC vs Police United FC – FFB Stadium (tentatively)
4:00 p.m. – Verdes FC vs Wagiya FC – Norman Broaster Stadium
