SportsRoad races results at BDF Sports Day on August 30

BELIZE CITY–Though somewhat belatedly, we take the opportunity to print the results of the BDF Sports Day races held recently at Price Barracks on Saturday, August 30. Thanks to Kevin Anderson of the BDF for forwarding the detailed results of the 5k, 10k and Half-Marathon races.

Back in the 1970’s and earlier, it was an established tradition to have a big Track & Field Meet at the MCC Grounds on the afternoon of Tenth of September or another date close to the Tenth.

With track events so few and far between nowadays, we think it is important to record the results of the most recent road races, though they were not held under the auspices of the Belize Athletic Association.

The most outstanding athlete in these events was reigning national Half-Marathon champion Leon O’Brien, who commented after the race that more regular meets are needed to motivate athletes to improve their performances. He is looking forward to the Placencia Half-Marathon race sometime in December of this year.

Also outstanding were the Carr sisters, daughters of former Half-Marathon king, Joseph Carr, who also participated and finished an impressive 3rd place in the open 10k, by far the best finisher in his age category.

Jamie Usher was top Female Half-Marathon finisher, followed by Kerah Eiley as 2nd Female.

Below are the results of the three road races, 5k (5,000 meters), 10k (10,000 meters) and Half-Marathon (roughly 21,000 meters or 13.1 miles) held on the BDF Sports Day.
