SOL Belize hosts U-13 and U-15 Football Marathon

SportsSOL Belize hosts U-13 and U-15 Football Marathon

BELIZE CITY, Tues. July 28, 2015–SOL Belize sponsored football Marathons in two categories – U-13 and U-15 on Saturday, July 25, at the MCC Grounds. Six (6) U-13 teams and four (4) U-15 teams participated in the Marathon, which followed a simple knockout format. Most of the participating teams involved players and coaches from the recently completed Smart 13 & Under football tournament, and past players of these teams who were now over the 13-year age limit. The tournaments were also coordinated by the same staff of the Smart 13 & Under, led by Stanley “Jordan” Reneau and Tyrone “T-Bone” Muschamp.

Brown Bombers was victorious in both the U-13 and U-15 categories. Second place in the U-13 was taken by Charlston FC, while Collet Strikers claimed the second place trophy in the U-15.

After the final game, SOL Belize representative, Rufino Lin, himself a past football star from the 1990 championship San Joaquin team, handed out individual medals to first and second place teams, as well as team trophies and individual trophies for the U-13 MVP, Eldon “Tuncy” Byrd, and U-15 MVP, Sherwin Requena.

The tournament will help in the selection process for a Belize District U-15 team to participate in the FFB National U-15 tournament.
