DANGRIGA, Thurs. Feb. 26, 2015–Dangriga Boys & Girls U-13 football: The Dangriga Boys and Girls Football Club U-13 Tournament, sponsored by Dangriga Cancer Centre, will continue this Sunday, March 1, at Ecumenical football field with 4 games. GAME 1 at 1:00 p.m. – Silk Grass vs Hopkins Esanigu; GAME 2 – Pomona vs Survivors; GAME 3 – Wagiya vs Umadagu; and GAME 4 – Montise vs Wagierale.

Cycling – Mr. T. Birthday Classic

The Southern Regional Cycling Association will be hosting its second cycle race for this year 2015 this Sunday, March 1, which will be the Mr. T, 8th Annual Birthday Classic. This race will start (and finish) from in front of the Ilagulei building on George Price Drive at 10:00 a.m. and head all the way to Hopkins junction on the Southern Highway and back. It is an Open race for amateur riders from across the country of Belize who wishes to take part. First place will receive $300.00; second, $200.00; and third, $100.00. Cash station prizes will be provided going and coming throughout this race. Registration per rider is only $10.00. DOMINOES

Ray’s Cool Spot, located south-west of the Benguche Park, will be hosting a Grand Dominoe Marathon this Sunday, March 1, commencing at 10:00 a.m. Dominoe teams from Dangriga and surrounding villages will take part in this grand marathon. First place will be receiving $500.00 plus one case of Badman liquor; second place, $250.00 plus one case of Badman liquor; third place, $100.00 plus 1 case Badman liquor. Registration per team is only $30.00. Teams must assemble at Ray’s Cool Spot by 9:45 a.m. For more information, dominoe teams can call 604-1192.

SOFTBALL

The Dangriga Zone secondary school softball tournament was a 3-game series between Ecumenical and Dellile Academy males and females, since ANRI doesn’t have any softball team. In the females, Ecumenical won over Dellile Academy, 9 to 6. This means Ecumenical females won 2 games out of the 3-game series, to advance to the Regionals. In the result from the males, Ecumenical males won over Dellile, 4 to 3, to take the series to Game 3. And in Game 3 yesterday, Wednesday, Delille won over Ecumenical, 8 to nil, for the Dangriga Zone male championship.

Since the rules have changed for the District Finals, both Delille Academy and Ecumenical males and females will represent Dangriga Zone in the Stann Creek District Finals coming up next week Saturday, March 7, in Dangriga, hosted by Ecumenical.

BELCARE Grassroots Festival

The 2015 BelCare Grassroots Football Festival was a big success in Dangriga’s Carl Ramos Stadium last Sunday, February 22, where close to 300 kids from all over the Stann Creek District took part, including 10 females. About 400 footballs and T-shirts were delivered. All U-13 teams and primary schools, as well as some high schools, received T-shirts and balls.

NEBL basketball

Home team Dangriga Warriors at this time is more than ready to defend their home court this Saturday night, after that 77 to 55 blow-out from Belmopan Red Taigaz last Thursday night at UB gymnasium. Ecumenical basketball auditorium will be jam packed this Saturday night, February 28, as Dangriga and surrounding villages will crowd the auditorium to support their home team, as they take on the power house from the west, CAYO WESTERN BALLAZ. Tip-off time is set for 8:00 p.m. sharp. Gate opens at 7:00 p.m. They will be having a door prize, and also a half-court shot. The winner who scores from haft-court at halftime receives $125.00. Admission is $5.00 for adults; school students with I.D. are only $3.00.

PLB Week 5

Carl Ramos Stadium will explode this Sunday, March 1, at 4:00 p.m. sharp with two teams who have strong motivation from their last game – WAGIYA, who came off a big 3 to 2 road win against FC Belize at the MCC Grounds, and San Ignacio United, who gained a big nil-nil draw against the defending champions, Belmopan Bandits. It is Wagiya vs San Ignacio United. Admission is $7.00; kids under 12 years are free; Travellers’ half-time- give-away.
