SportsUpdated report on Belize at CODICADER Games; Shanicka wins GOLD

BELIZE CITY–The following report was submitted today by Belize delegation head, National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) President, Deon Sutherland, in reference to events held on Thursday, September 4, at the CODICADER Games in Guatemala:

“In track and field, Belize got two more medals. Shanicka Augustine(female) got GOLD in the triple jump with a distance of 11.42m; and Ezhay Cayetano(male) got Bronze in triple jump with a distance of 12.84m.

In football, Belize drew with El Salvador, 1–1. Salvador tied the game in the last 5 minutes of the second half of play. Nonetheless, the guys played very well. Congrats!

In basketball, we suffered a devastating loss to El Salvador of 61–100. We still have a chance to medal, but in our other games we have to win by huge margins.

In triathlon, our single athlete did not do so well; he finished the course in 1:21:42.

In volleyball, our team lost to Costa Rica in three sets, 14–25, 22–25, and 18–25. Our girls played two friendlies with Guatemala and Honduras, and defeated both in three sets. Today, they play El Salvador.

Athletes in track and field, softball, karate and triathlon leave Guatemala today and return to Belize tomorrow.”
