Walter Beaton, 40, shot twice near Cumberbatch Field

CrimeWalter Beaton, 40, shot twice near Cumberbatch Field

Bullets were flying once again over this past weekend in Belize City as a number of shooting incidents have been reported in which there were at least three shooting victims; however, none of those incidents proved fatal.

The first shooting happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. last Friday, June 13, when a construction worker was shot multiple times by a lone gunman in the Port Loyola area of Belize City.

According to police, Walter Beaton, 40, was riding on a bicycle on Kraal Road heading in the direction of Fabers Road when, upon reaching the corner with Ross Pen Road, he was approached by a dark-complexioned man in a blue shirt and long black pants who was also on a bicycle.

The gunman then reportedly pointed a black firearm in Beaton’s direction and fired several shots, two of which caught Beaton on the left hand.

Beaton recounted that he subsequently jumped off his bicycle and ran inside the Cumberbatch Field (which is located nearby) to escape his assailant, who then turned and rode in the direction of Guerrero Street, which is located behind the field.

Police say that they are investigating.
