11-year-old and 13-year-old girls charged with kidnapping

General11-year-old and 13-year-old girls charged with kidnapping

The father and grandfather of the 11-year-old, and the parents of the 13-year-old went looking for the alleged rapists, and the girls pointed out a 19-year-old youth as one of the two involved in their abduction/rape.

Police press officer, G. Michael Reid, said that the police investigation into the matter at that time had revealed that the youth was taken to Burrell Boom, where he was beaten by the girls? fathers and the grandfather.

Reid said that they took the law into their own hands and police had to charge them with kidnapping, and on April 24, the 11-year-old?s father, 32, along with the child?s grandfather, and the parents of the 13-year-old, were jointly charged in the Belize City Magistrate?s Court with the kidnapping of the 19-year-old young man.

The 19-year-old was not charged.

Today, however, the two girls were picked up by police and late this evening, at around 4:00, the 11-year-old was arraigned in the Belize Family Court. The 13-year-old was absent, but she was still charged in court.

The arrest and subsequent charges of kidnapping on both girls was a directive of the Director of Public Prosecution [DPP], said Reid today, Thursday.

Reid said that police charged them both because they were inside the vehicle when the youth were picked up by their parents.

The 11-year-old has been remanded to the Youth Hostel for 8 days until her next court appearance, scheduled for August 12.

Her father and grandfather, along with the other two parents, are scheduled to reappear in the Belize City Magistrate?s Court on August 25.

Reid said today that when the girls were found in Orange Walk, they told their families that they had been abducted, but their stories were not consistent, as they kept giving different information on what had happened.

However, when they were found, they never said anything about being raped, he said.

A medical examination conducted on the 11-year-old revealed that she was sexually active, while the examination conducted on the 13-year-old concluded that her hymen was intact, said Reid.

But when Amandala spoke with the 11-year-old girl on Tuesday of this week, she said that both of them were raped. According to her, on April 18, while they were walking to school on Albert Street West, sometime between 12:30-1:00 p.m., they were approached by two young men, and one of them, armed with a knife, forced them into a taxi. The 11-year-old said one of the men placed the knife at her side, at the corner of Berkeley Street and Albert Street West, and they walked the two girls to a nearby bridge on East Canal and Berkeley Street, said the 11-year-old, where a taxi was waiting for them.

Once into the taxi, she said, they were taken to an abandoned house located in the King?s Park area, where she and her friend were raped.

The men, along with two other men, then took them to Sarteneja sometime around 1:00, the following morning, April 19, where they were left alone in a park, she further alleges.

The girl said that the youth told them that someone was to come and kill them, but no one came up until 5:00 a.m., when they were approached by a lady in the area, who helped them.

Both girls, with the help of a lady were placed on a bus to Orange Walk, where they made it to the Orange Walk Police station, and were later transported to Belize City.

This is the version of the 11-year-old girl, who we were able to speak with in the presence of her father. The other girl is said to have gone back to Honduras.
