General18-month-old baby badly burnt

PUNTA GORDA, Toledo District, Thurs. Feb. 28, 2019– An 18-month-old baby girl is currently at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital trying to recover after her body was badly burnt during a small house fire.

According to police reports, the disastrous incident occurred on Tuesday, February 26, around 5:30 p.m. The baby’s mother, Aaronie Gamboa, 25, told police that she was at home in Punta Gorda Town with her daughter, Zela Usher, when an electrical outlet in Zela’s room caught fire.

The fire quickly spread to a curtain in the room and the burning curtain unfortunately fell on top of the baby. Thankfully, Zela was saved before she was fatally injured.

Zela was rushed to the Punta Gorda Community Hospital with severe burns to 60% of her body, and afterwards she was transported to Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga, then to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for further emergency medical treatment.

Burn Victim Mercy Fund is currently trying to fly her out of the country in order for her to get specialized treatment.

Punta Gorda police are currently investigating the incident.
