Two men, Michael Young, 22, and Armando “Mando” Davis, 24, were sentenced to 5 years today in the #1 Magistrate’s Court after they pleaded guilty to burglary.
The burglary occurred yesterday morning at the house of businessman Estevan Perera, located at Mile 2 ½ on the Western Highway.
Perera’s wife, Eneyda Perera, 51, reported to the police that she left home around 9:05 a.m. yesterday, and when she returned 15 minutes later, she saw that the front door of her house was open and that it had been burglarized.
She said she got into her vehicle and when she drove on Fabers Road Extension, she saw two men walking ahead of her, acting suspiciously.
She decided to follow the men and while she was doing so, she called the police.
When the police arrived on Fabers Road Extension, the men were still on the road walking. The police searched them and found two of the items that were stolen during the burglary – Perera’s licensed 9-millimetre pistol containing 5 rounds of ammunition in its magazine, and a Canon digital camera. The value of the gun is $2,500 and the camera’s value is $1,500.The police did not recover the other stolen items, which included a holster for the gun, a Sony digital camera, a camera bag, 2 Sony chips and a Nintendo game.
The men were identified as Michael Young and Armando Davis, and they were taken into custody and later charged with burglary, the charge to which they pleaded guilty.
Young was a Customer Care agent of #6 Zericote Street, and Davis was an auto mechanic of #76 Vernon Street.
