$614 million of Musa/Fonseca “mistakes”

Politics$614 million of Musa/Fonseca “mistakes”
1.   Using public funds to dredge the Belize City Port, just before privatization, for an estimated cost of $44 million, then “selling” the same asset for $4 million less than the dredging cost.

2.   Purchasing for $10 million the Mahogany Heights lands for a new city: the scandal was that the seller of the land did not possess proper title. GOB then spent $80 million developing the land only to discover that 80% of the 6000 plus acres was inadequate for construction.

3.   Loans and loan guarantees to the Intelco catastrophe, total an estimated $45 million, including Intelco’s overvalued assets, contract with LG, SWAN System, failed computer labs, bogus collateral, etc.

4.   The sale, repurchase and then resale of BTL involving Prosser and Ashcroft, including premiums, loan costs, legal fees, penalties, tax waivers, etc., costing an estimated $60 million.

5.   The cost of bad loans given out by DFC without proper collateral, ultimately guaranteed by the government and people of Belize – an estimated $150 million.

6.   Bad loans and guarantees, non-paying house projects, various Glenn Godfrey projects (apart from Intelco), etc., imposed on the Social Security funds – total of some $40 million.

7.   Galleria Maya and related projects and expenses estimated at $15 million.

8.   UHS-related guarantees, write offs by DFC, monies diverted from Taiwan and Venezuela – total of some $60 million.

9.   Tax exemptions to special interests, including the Belize Bank and BTL, import duty, business tax and refusing a BNE windfall tax – total of some $90 million.

10. Special projects, including Petro Caribe and Marine Parade – some $20 million.
