General9:20 p.m. shooting on Elston Kerr Street

BELIZE CITY—At approximately 9:20 tonight, several gunshots rang out at the corner of Elston Kerr and Iguana Streets as another youth was the subject of a calculated attack by an unknown gunman who, we understand, shot him as many as five times.

The victim, identified as Rodrick Williams, 19, who lives on Elston Kerr Street, was apparently on his way home when the gunman shot him and fled the scene.

Rodrick was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) shortly after by a police mobile unit which happened to be in the area at the time; however, his condition is unknown at press time tonight.

Eyewitnesses told Amandala that before the incident, two fair-complexioned young men were observed circling the area on a motorcycle, and it is believed that the men parked the motorcycle on a nearby street before the gunman, who was reportedly dressed in full black, decided to ambush his target.

Neighbors told us that the shooting victim is a popular basketball player who is not a troublemaker and is not involved in gang activity.

When we left the area, Scenes of Crime technicians were at work; however, no expended shells were retrieved from the scene, and it is suspected that a .38 revolver may have been used.
