Godfrey claimed that the government officials he dealt with knew exactly what they were getting into, had their eyes wide open, and knew that the properties had not been developed. He said that the whole thing had Government?s blessing.

The Opposition-led show on which he appeared was televised on Channel 7, and that station?s news director, Jules Vasquez, asked the Prime Minister to reply to Godfrey?s comments at a press conference called this evening to discuss the refinancing of public debt.

The Prime Minister said that neither he nor any GOB minister followed the Godfrey loans every step of the way.

?What I would say is, whatever the Government commitment we gave to Intelco, or indeed to?. to the whole process of securitization in SSB, it does not excuse non-performance by the private sector in carrying out its obligations, and that has been the whole point that I?ve been making,? said P.M. Musa.

Godfrey had said on last Wednesday?s talk show that, ?This pretense that, ?We?re just innocent politicians; we were taken advantage of by an unscrupulous businessman,? is total nonsense.?

Government claims Glenn Godfrey owes them; Godfrey has refuted this position, however, and said on the same talk show that he also has a bill to collect from the Government.

P.M. Musa said Government is ?taking legal advice on what is the exact amount that we should be suing for, and when that is determined, action will be taken.?
