The girl, a naturalized Belizean originally from Guatemala, said that her mother made her perform sexual favors for money. The girl said that she had to have sex with men to help with their poor living and eating conditions.

According to a reliable source, the girl is not the only young person in her family. She has a 16-year-old sister, the eldest, who is pregnant. She also has other sisters and brothers who live with them in Buena Vista, a village located near Spanish Lookout, where mostly Guatemalan immigrants reside.

Her mother was detained on Monday in connection with her daughter?s allegation.

A medical officer examined the girl and confirmed that she was carnally known.

The girl?s mother appeared in the San Ignacio Magistrate?s Court, where she was charged with procuration.

The charge against the mother is indictable, and she was remanded to the Hattieville Prison. She is scheduled to reappear in court on Monday, January 23, 2006.
