One of Belize’s greatest football midfielders ever, Michael “Magal” Jones, 43, died about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, December 2, at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital from hypertension and kidney failure.
Magal had been ailing for about 3 months. His condition took a turn for the worse 9 days ago when he was admitted to ward. He never recovered.
Magal will be buried on Thursday, December 6, after services are held at Zoe Ministries on Vernon Street.
Before he became ill, Magal was playing for Pickstock Lake, an Over-35 team. During the height of his football career he played for championship quality teams, notably among them Duurly’s and Berger 404.
Magal, a man of quiet strength, was a mason by trade.
He is survived by his common-law wife, Carolyn Rowland, and 6 children. He is also survived by his mother, Enid Hermond, 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
Amandala extends deep condolences to the family and friends of the late Magal Jones, taken from us far too early.
