KREM Radio’s and Esso’s Blast Your Car Stereo Sweepstakes ended Monday morning, November 17, after a first winner was selected for what the two companies are hoping could become an annual event.
Carl Gentle, a taxi driver, made the call within the prescribed 96.5 seconds from the time his name was announced until he called the KREM announcer. There other names were announced for the big prize, but they were slow in making the call; as a consequence, they were automatically eliminated from the chance of winning.
The Retail Manager for Esso, Freddie Flores, says that he hopes that this first promotion between the two companies will lead to other collaborations.
As his prize, Gentle gets a full tank of gas and service from Esso that is valued at five hundred dollars.
During the month long Sweepstakes, which ended on KREM’s birthday on Monday, November 17, many taxi drivers, who had registered their cab numbers with the station, were able to call in to 96.5 FM in 96.5 seconds, winning twenty-five dollars worth of free gasoline from Esso. The participating Esso stations were the Esso Superstation at Pound Yard, Tiger Mart on Freetown Road and Esso Ramon’s on the Northern Highway.
