GeneralOne down, 4 more to go in the murder of Aubrey Lopez
Paul Jex, 23, a construction worker of # 46 Cran Street, Belize City, one of several suspects in the murder of Aubrey Dwight Lopez, 30, of Belmopan, was formally arraigned in Magistrate Sharon Frazer’s courtroom to face a charge of murder for the brutal and senseless execution of Lopez, beloved teacher, nationally known basketball superstar, and basketball coach.

Lopez was shot in the head around 11:20 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010, on Prince Street, Belize City. According to witnesses who called the police shortly after they heard the gunfire, they noticed a light blue Nissan Altima speeding away from the scene.

Lopez was left lying face down on the bloody pavement, succumbing to the injuries almost instantly.

With quick police response, the suspected light blue Nissan Altima was intercepted near the Queen’s Square Market. Police noted that there were five occupants, however, three escaped. Jex was one of the two persons in the Altima to be arrested and charged by officers that night.

While the other detainee has not been brought to court as yet, Jex, who remained relatively quiet inside the courtroom, was remanded to the Hattieville Prison Facility until his court date set for July 23, 2010.
