Major burglary at the PGIA – 2 suspects arrested

GeneralMajor burglary at the PGIA – 2 suspects arrested
Sometime between the hours of Friday and Saturday, two facilities within the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) were looted of valuable items. The total value of all that were stolen has not yet been ascertained, but the police have made successful efforts to recover a number of the items.

The location of the facilities are somewhat deep within the PGIA, and are also manned by additional security guards; this speaks to the brazenness of the burglars.

Amandala spoke to a member of management at Maya Island Air, who told us that sometime between Friday and Saturday, their maintenance facility at PGIA was broken into and a number of items stolen.

Police say that stolen from the facility were several special aircraft tools: 32 spanners ranging from 7/8 inches to 2.2 inches in size, 12 special sockets 1-2 inches, 2 multi-meter testers, a bore scope, 2 battery chargers, 2 aircraft batteries, a tap and die set, 5 aircraft torque wrenches and a portable battery charger.

Also stolen were a twelve-gallon vacuum units, 5 portable light bulbs, 4 gauges, 2 hand saws, 2 hack saws, an aircraft battery, a charger analyzer, 3 spray guns, 3 18-watt cordless drills, an electric power saw, a hydraulic pump, 4 bottle jacks, 2 floor jacks, a bicycle, a portable aircraft tool box, and 2 thirteen-gallon vacuum units.

These thieves also managed to steal an electric power drill, a set of 12-inch socket impact tools, 6 vice grips, 3 adjustable wrenches, 3 air hoses, a drill-bit sharpener, 4 halt-face respirators, a set of double-window louvers, a desktop computer , a 32-inch television, a microwave, and a DVD unit.

Police say that they recovered some of the items, and they also arrested two suspects in connection to the robbery. Many of the recovered items were found at one suspect’s house.

Police also believe that these men also stole several items from the hanger belonging to the Belize Airport Concession, inside the premises of the PGIA. These items have also been recovered.

The suspects have not yet been charged in court.
