Despite the protests of Hon. Carlos Perdomo, the Minister of Defense and Immigration, to us last week that the rumors of him leaving his post as area representative for Caribbean Shores is not true, a Caribbean Shores convention seems to be materializing with the United Democratic Party.
The information to Amandala is that Perdomo will step down for the 2013 general elections, and jostling for the position will be businessman and owner of Santiago Castillo Limited, Santiago “Santino” Castillo, Jr.; executive director of the Women’s Commission, Ann-Marie Williams; and CEO of BELTRAIDE, Michael Singh.
In December, 2010, Perdomo defeated City Counselor Roger Espejo, in a party convention, and word to us today is that the three candidates are only waiting for Perdomo’s step-down to be official.
Castillo confirmed to us in an interview this evening that he is planning to run in the convention for Caribbean Shores in the event that Perdomo does step down, but that it is not his first attempt at a political career. He recalls the 1993 general elections where he had offered himself under the UDP umbrella.
Castillo told us that he has always felt that he was destined to be a politician, and since he has been a resident of Caribbean Shores for over the past 27 years, he has plans to contribute back to the area for further deveopment.
“Santino will listen and deliver:” Castillo told us that this is a motto that he has been using in his business and plans to transfer the slogan to his political career once the Caribbean Shores Convention becomes a reality.
In closing, Castillo explained if Perdomo does step down, the convention will be held no later than November, 2011.
All efforts in contacting Williams, Singh and Perdomo were futile.
