Tropicana Lounge in Belize City is to host a fundraising dance on Friday, June 28, 2013, in honor of the Belize National Football Team.
The team is scheduled to leave the country in a week to attend the CONCACAF Gold Cup Games in the United States. It will be Belize’s first participation in the game, but the team has been short of funding for the venture. A telethon was held not too long ago, and although a handsome sum was raised, they’re still behind on their $500,000 goal.
For this reason, the management of Tropicana Lounge has embarked on their mission of contribution. The popular night spot in the City is charging a $10 per person admission fee into the club. All proceeds from the admission will be given to the team to help finance their expenses.
Amandala spoke to president of the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), Ruperto Vicente, who said that the Federation and the team are very grateful for the effort taken on by the Tropicana Lounge management. He said that the effort clearly indicates the level of support the team is getting from the community.
Vicente said that all the funding received will help to ensure that the team gets the best treatment possible while representing their country. He added that he encourages the public to develop a stronger sense of support for the team.
The public is encouraged to come out on Friday and enjoy the event while supporting the Jewel’s national team. The Belize Jaguars are to play their first game on July 9 against the United States team in Portland, Oregon.
