Unicomer (Belize) Limited, parent company of Courts Belize, this morning held an award ceremony for 10 young Belizeans who have been selected for full high school scholarships.

Five of the recipients are from the Cayo District, four are from the Belize District (and particularly Belize City) and one is from the Orange Walk District.

The awardees are Alomy Rodriguez of August Pine Ridge, Nelly Novelo of Belmopan, Yassir Zuniga and Jorge Medina of Bullet Tree Falls, Britney Alvarez of Santa Elena, Joe Allen Martinez of San Ignacio, and Belize City residents Alrin Turton, Zaphan Neal, Omar Coc and Glenys Ramos.

“Think of this as a launching pad to the stars…. Whatever you do now is on you, basically. It’s your efforts. All the administration, all the fees are covered for four years and now all you’ve got to concentrate on is your studies,” said Belize City store manager, David Tasker, urging them to never give up. “The world is yours now, so make the most of it.”

“At the end of the day, you guys are going to be the ones that really can make a difference to Belize with your education, to your community and to yourself – and who knows, maybe one day you might be standing here one day giving this speech,” Keith Slater, Court’s Managing Director, told the awardees.

He said that to date, there have been no dropouts, although there have been challenges.
