Fires destroy properties in Ladyville and Corozal

GeneralFires destroy properties in Ladyville and Corozal

A house and a warehouse, in Biscayne and Corozal respectively, were completely destroyed by fire on Sunday.

The Corozal Fire Service reported that they responded to a call at about 5:00 a.m. Sunday reporting a fire at Johnny’s Construction, Mile 85 1/2 on the Philip Goldson Highway. When they arrived at the scene, the building was already engulfed in fierce flames.

Fire officials believed that the fire started in the office of the company. Firemen put out the fire, but the building, made of concrete, was destroyed.

Reports are that in the warehouse at the time were four vehicles in good condition, a boat and other machinery worth thousands of dollars, and they were all destroyed.

After investigating, fire officials concluded that the fire started in the office, which was located in the storeroom of the building.

Corozal police have also launched a criminal investigation into the fire, since it destroyed over a million dollars in assets.

Another building was destroyed by fire on Tuesday. At about 1:30 on Tuesday afternoon, Ladyville police went to Mile 27 1/2 on the Philip Goldson Highway in Biscayne and saw an unpainted wood-and-concrete elevated structure, approximately six feet from off the ground, completely destroyed by fire.

A man who lives adjacent to the building reported that he arrived home at approximately 1:15 p.m. and saw the building on fire. The building had been abandoned for some time and did not have flooring.

The fire was put out by the Ladyville Fire Service, which has started an investigation into the cause of the fire.
