William Anderson, 71, dies in road collision

FeaturesWilliam Anderson, 71, dies in road collision

William Alexander Anderson, 71, of Monkey River, died after suffering massive head and body injuries in a road collision today when the vehicle he was driving slammed head-on into a school bus at about 7:15 this morning on a curve about a mile outside Independence, on the Savannah Road.

Police said that the yellow school bus was travelling in the direction of Independence when a gray Toyota Previa minivan, driven by Anderson, travelling to Bella Vista, in the opposite direction, swerved off to the other side of the lane and crashed head-on into the oncoming school bus.

As a result, Anderson’s vehicle suffered extensive damage, causing him to be jammed in the vehicle, and he was extracted out of the wreck by rescuers. He was declared dead on the scene, however.

A teacher and a student on the bus suffered minor injuries, for which they were treated and released from the Independence Polyclinic.

Anderson was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga, where he was placed in the morgue, awaiting a post-mortem to certify the cause of his death.

Police are investigating, but the preliminary indication is that Anderson veered off into the path of the oncoming bus.

Anderson was a former chairman of Monkey River.
