BELIZE CITY–On Sunday, December 14, the Cycling Federation of Belize, in collaboration with SMART, held an Open Elite Test race from the Smart building near Mile 2 on the Philip Goldson (Northern) Highway to Carmelita Village and back to Smart. Most of the big name cyclists and teams participated, as they prepare for the start of the new season. Below are the top 10 finishers and station prize winners.

Giovanni Lovell 1st, Brandon Cattouse 2nd, Byron Pope 3rd

Station prizes going were won by Mark Staine at Ladyville ($50.00 gift card); Mark Staine at Sandhill (1 Dongle); Delawn Abraham at Crooked Tree junction ($50.00 gift card); and Philip Leslie at Green House at the beginning of Carmelita (1 cell phone). And coming back, station prizes were taken by Philip Leslie at Crooked Tree junction (1 Dongle); Gregory Lovell at Biscayne ($50.00 gift card); Giovanni Lovell at Boom Junction ($50.00 gift card); and Giovanni Lovell at the Jane Usher residence (1 cell phone).

Giovanni maintained his lead right through the finish line in front of Smart. Top 10 finishers were: 1st place Giovanni Lovell (BTL Cycling Team); 2nd Brandon Cattouse (C-Ray Road Addikz); 3rd Byron Pope (Benny’s Megabytes); 4th Henry Moreira (Smart Cycling Team); 5th David Henderson (Smart Cycling Team); 6th Joel Borland (BTL Cycling Team); 7th Joslyn Chavarria (BECOL/Chavarria); 8th Peter Choto (C-Ray Road Addikz); 9th Patrick Bennett (Smart Cycling Team); and 10th Angel Tzib (Smart Cycling Team)

The next cycling event scheduled, the last for 2014, is the Leslie’s Imports/Belize City Council Pre-Christmas Race on Sunday, December 21.

Following that, of course, will be the big one to start the new year – the 25th Annual Krem New Year’s Day Cycling Classic.
