Dear Editor,

I write in regards to an article published in the Sunday, 5 July 2016, edition of Amandala. The article, a CubaNews translation by Walter Lippmann, is entitled “Brazil : the southern giant will have to fight” and was written by Manuel E. Yepe.

In his article the author speaks about a “(…) parliamentary and media coup d’etat against the constitutional order in Brazil”. It is clear that Mr. Yepe is not familiar with the political process in Brazil, which develops in a framework of absolute respect for the democratic institutions and the Federal Constitution.

As any unbiased observer may confirm, the process of impeachment  is a constitutional provision. The rules of procedure established at the Constitution and the law were rigorously followed, with the endorsement and determination of the Supreme Court. The Vice-President assumed the presidency as expressly determined by the Federal Constitution.

Yours Truly,

Lucio Amorim
