Police say that they have charged Adam Meighan, 31, with the crime

LADYVILLE, Belize District, Mon. Dec. 10, 2018– An American woman was raped and robbed while she was about to leave her home in Ladyville on Thursday, December 6, at about 9 a.m.

The woman, 49, told police that as she was getting into her car, a dark-skinned man armed with a machete approached her. The man, she told police, knocked her to the ground and then raped her before stealing an envelope containing $8,200 in different denominations, which was in the vehicle.

Police, in a press brief held this afternoon at the Raccoon Street Police Station, said that they had detained a suspect, Adam Meighan, 31, who was identified by the victim as being her attacker. Meighan is reportedly a resident of Ladyville, and he was charged by police with rape.
