GeneralJohn Bennett, 38, dies in accident on George Price Highway

GEORGE PRICE HIGHWAY, Tues. Mar. 12, 2019– John Bennett, 38, died in a traffic accident that occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, between Miles 6 and 7 on the George Price Highway. When police arrived on the scene, they saw Bennett’s body with multiple injuries on it and a red motorcycle not too far away.

A Ford Explorer and the person who had been driving it, Anthony Grant, age unknown, were in the middle of the road.

Initial investigations revealed that Bennett, who had been riding towards Belize City, was attempting to overtake a vehicle when he collided with Grant’s Ford Explorer, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Grant told police that he tried to swerve to avoid hitting Bennett, but was unable to do so.

Bennett died on the spot. Grant was served with an NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution) and a urine sample was taken from him. A post-mortem exam was conducted on Bennett and police took a sample of his blood to determine if he had been intoxicated.

Bennett leaves behind 3 children.
