Summer camp for children at home because of COVID-19

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 26, 2020– Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Belize and on the world, many programs which were scheduled to take place in the country this year were postponed or cancelled. Among those programs which were cancelled was the Annual Summer Camp for Children, sponsored by the Belize Camping Experience (BCE), a Christian group that sponsors yearly camps for children in different parts of the country.

This year, BCE has created a camping experience for children to enjoy at home with their parents and/or their guardians, through the preparation of a video and a curriculum for the parents.

Leah Perez, Children Activity Coordinator at BCE, told us that the video camp experience is real, and it was created with children and parent participation in mind. Senior members of the group  are shown on video conducting activities carried out at the regular camp.

At camp, there are songs, physical exercises, Bible teaching and verses, and other activities for enjoyment, all with the supervision of an adult.

Perez said that although the children are at home, they can participate in the camp activities, and that the video will be given to them for free; all they have to do is inbox BCE at [email protected].

The video and curriculum can be used by teachers and students, because it was thoughtfully put together.

Alex Perez, another member of BCE, said that the BCE is a Christian group and they partner with Harvest For Kids for funding to meet the cost of the annual camp for the children.
