BELIZE CITY, Fri. June 26, 2020– The absence of the former People’s United Party (PUP) two-term Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Said Musa, from today’s House of Representatives meeting, was noticeable. The senior parliamentarian and area representative for Fort George has been recovering from what family members have described as a mild stroke that he suffered on May 17, 2020.

After the House meeting, the media inquired about the health condition of Rt. Hon. Musa, while interviewing his son, Kareeem Musa (Caribbean Shores).

Hon. Musa said that his family had described the stroke suffered by his father as “a mild stroke”, but he further shared that what they “didn’t explain was that it is a very rare kind of stroke.”

Hon. Musa said his father “is coming along excellently”. “I think that this one falls under only two percent of all strokes,” he said.

“We have excellent doctors tending to him, speech therapist, physiotherapist, and he has made significant improvements,” Hon. Musa said.

While the elder Musa is expected to make a full recovery, his son said that the stroke comes with its own complications.

“He’s having difficulty swallowing. We are contemplating, and it is very likely that we’ll fly him out next week for a minor procedure to fix that issue. Because, if we don’t fix that, he can have complications later with liquid getting on his lungs. That is something that we are trying to address aggressively, especially like how he is stable and alert. Mentally, he is in excellent spirits,” Hon. Musa said.

Rt. Hon. Said Musa was Prime Minister of Belize from 1998 to 2008.
