Police to escort depositors to the banks

HighlightsPolice to escort depositors to the banks

BELIZE CITY, Fri. July 3, 2020– Police will now escort representatives of businesses who are making bank deposits. The announcement was made today by Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams. The initiative is being undertaken to prevent the robbery of bank depositors, who have become a target of criminals.

Commissioner Williams said that business owners can now call the Police Department to arrange for officers to escort depositors to the bank.

Police said that within a week, one bank depositor was robbed at Scotiabank (an incident which took place yesterday), and another robbery took place in Punta Gorda on Tuesday evening, when an attempt was made to rob the manager of UNO Gas Station, who was on the way to make a bank deposit.

During this robbery attempt, the security guard who was accompanying the gas station manager was shot in the arm.
