Thousands of Belizeans confirmed for repatriation

GeneralThousands of Belizeans confirmed for repatriation

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 10, 2020– The Philip Goldson International Airport remains closed to visitors until further notice; however, the repatriation process is still well underway.

As of Friday, August 7, 2020, a total of 453 Belizeans had been brought home, while a remaining 1,032 are in the process of being returned.

Since the start of the program, there has hardly been a repatriation cohort that has returned with no active cases of COVID-19 onboard the returning flights.

Since the start of August alone, 11 of Belize’s active cases were brought in through repatriation, either from the US, Mexico, Honduras or Guatemala.

As of Friday, an additional 1,114 persons have been approved for re-entry into the country, as well. Health officials have assured the public that throughout the process, those active cases being brought in through repatriation are of very little consequence, because these persons are required to be quarantined for a minimum of 14 days before being allowed to move around freely.
