Teens escape traffic accident with non-life-threatening injuries

SANTA ELENA, Cayo District, Mon. Nov. 30, 2020– George Velasquez and Jason Linares, both 18, are lucky to be alive following a traffic accident on the George Price Highway in Santa Elena Town last night.

Police arrived on the scene at about 8:30 p.m. to find a 1997 Toyota Corolla cab with extensive damage to the front-end and a 250 Lifan motorcycle in the middle of the highway.

Initial investigation reveals that the Velasquez was driving the cycle with Linares as a passenger, from north to south on the George Price Highway, when the driver of the cab made a left turn into Mablepitts Street, causing the collision.

The driver of the cab fled the scene and remains at large; he has since been identified by police as Juan Fernando Lara, other particulars unknown.

Velasquez is in a stable condition at the San Ignacio Hospital under observation, while Linares was treated and released.
