BELIZE CITY, Fri. Dec. 18, 2020– On Friday, the Ministry of Education announced that career educator, Yolanda Gongora, has been selected as the new Chief Education Officer. Her selection comes just weeks after the former Chief Education Officer, Dr. Carol Babb, made an abrupt departure from the Ministry of Education.
Gongora has worked in the education field for over 30 years. She has worked as a teacher, and later a principal, at St. John College, and has served as Director of General School Services in the Ministry of Education.
She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida.
The Ministry of Education’s release states, “Ms. Gongora has demonstrated her dedication to the provision of efficient and effective educational services. We welcome her scope of knowledge of the education sector as well as the professionalism and leadership ability she brings to our team.”
