BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 25, 2021– The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise has informed the public of new fixed controlled prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). As of March 26, 2021, there will be an increase in wholesale and retail prices of LPG in both urban and rural areas of Belize. There had been a prior price increase just two and a half months ago, on January 9, 2021, when new LPG prices — reflecting increases from previous rates that had been fixed in May of 2020 — were introduced.

There will now be a 0.43 cents increase in wholesale prices from $3.16 to $3.59 per gallon in each district, while retail prices across urban areas will rise by 10 cents per pound of LPG sold, from $1.08 to $1.18 cents. A per-gallon increase of 0.43 cents will also take prices from $4.76 to $5.19 in those areas.

In rural areas, there will be a 9-cent jump in the price per pound of LPG — from $1.11 to $1.20, and a 0.43 cents increase per gallon from $4.86 cents to $5.29.

According to a press release from the Belize Bureau of Standards, “the increase in March is due to tempered increase in acquisition prices in the US Gulf Coast” as the winter months wane.

“The general public is advised that the prices established for imported LPG are based on the mixtures of 70:30 (Propane: Butane) only as per requirement of the Belize National Standard Specification for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) BZS 21:2012.
