Grow the economy

FeaturesGrow the economy

For the last 28 years, I have been living in the country of Belize, with my permanent address at Finca Solana, Corozal District. From here I can look outside and see, as a fact, that in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. I can also see that there is a belief that those who have more money have the highest intelligence quotient (I Q). The only problem that this class of people have is that they are incapable of hearing and looking below their Pinocchio nose. Had they looked below their nostrils and listened to “the little people down there,” they would have heard the voices saying: “Grow the economy by tight budget spending rather than letting greedy politicians take advantage of the citizens.”

On the other hand, Belize needs justice, not charity. According to the government of the day, the former administration committed all kinds of corruption. In such a case, for them to make such accusations it means to say that they have tangible evidence. So, “we, the little people down there” are confused, because we do not understand the reason why those criminals have not been detained and taken to the justice system to pay for their crimes. Now, if there is no evidence, may you kindly shut your mouth! We have learnt from the former administration that such political strategy was just a waste of saliva, for the reason that when the people got fed up with the same scratched record, they were kicked out of office and, as you may know, they went with their suitcase filled to its capacity.

Wondering persons asked: “Is that how the Belizean system game is played?” The former president of Uruguay, José Alberto “Pepe” Mujica Cordero, took a cut of 90% of his monthly salary for charities that benefited poor people and small entrepreneurs. In addition, he decriminalized marijuana. In Belize, it would be the end of putting black boys in jail, plus it would take down street crime, except for the untouchable white-collar criminals. While Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was candidate for Mexico’s presidential seat, he had promised his people that as president he would take a 60% cut off his salary. And as a nationalist, he complied with his pledge when he took office on December 1, 2018. Prior to Coronavirus.
