GRACE BANK, Belize District, Sun. Apr. 18, 2021– On Sunday, April 18, 2021, the police responded to reports that a male person presumably drowned in Grace Bank Village. According to family members of the man, Herwin Godoy, they were swimming in the river around 4:00 p.m. that day when he attempted to swim across.

When he was near the middle of the river, Godoy reportedly cried for help as he started to sink deeper into the water. Godoy soon sank under the water and did not resurface, said his family members.

The Belize Coast Guard and Godoy’s family are currently conducting searches in the area. Godoy is presumed to have drowned, but the authorities have not yet recovered his body.
