Belmopan, Wed. Sept. 15, 2021– At this critical juncture in Belize’s battle with the Covid-19 pandemic, when local hospitals, including the KHMH, are reportedly operating at maximum capacity, the U.S. South Command (US SOUTHCOM), through the U.S. Embassy of Belize, is donating a state-of-the-art field hospital to the country for the treatment of critically ill Covid-19 patients. The donation is being made as a part of US SOUTHCOM’s Humanitarian Assistance Program and will be supplemented with a training session and installation.
The value of the field hospital, which is reportedly equipped with 40 beds, as well as generators and air-conditioning units, is US $1.1 million. The facility will be officially handed over to the Ministry of Health and Wellness on Friday, September 15, 2021.
A Facebook post from the U.S. Southern Command states, “#WeStandWithBelize and are committed to supporting its public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic and future challenges wherever those challenges arise.”
