Suspected COVID-19 patient dies on clinic’s stairs

GeneralSuspected COVID-19 patient dies on clinic’s stairs

SAN IGNACIO, Cayo District, Thurs. Oct. 7, 2021– A woman who was being investigated as a possible Covid-19 case is reported to have died suddenly in San Ignacio while she was ascending the stairs of a private clinic to get treatment.

A video which surfaced on social media yesterday showed a small crowd frantically ferrying the body of a collapsed woman to the back of a police pickup in front of a private clinic on Hudson Street in San Ignacio.

According to the woman’s physician, Dr. Jorge Garcia, she was being treated for pneumonia-related complications — a strong indicator of a COVID-19 infection. He was one of the persons who helped to put her in the back of the police truck.

It has been reported that it had appeared that the woman’s condition was improving, but while en route to Garcia’s office for further consultation and treatment, she collapsed on the stairs.

While, given the woman’s symptoms, there are speculations that she might have been infected with Covid-19, there has been no confirmation that the patient was infected with, or died as a result of, this virus. Dr. Garcia told local media that this is the first such experience he has had in his 40 years in the medical profession.
