Belize City man killed while buying food

BELIZE CITY, Mon. June 20, 2022

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a man was killed while he was with a group buying food from a restaurant in Belize City. Jeffery Buller, 26, was fatally shot in the neck when a lone gunman fired at a group with whom he was standing outside Wong Gok Restaurant, in Belize City, where they were in the process of buying food. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) a little after midnight along with Akeem Bermudez, 28, who was shot in his hand.

Buller passed away while receiving treatment a little after 1:00 on Saturday morning, reports say. Several expended shells were found by police at the crime scene on 6th Street in the Kings Park area. Bermudez, who was shot in the hand, is currently in stable condition.

When police arrived on the scene, Buller and Bermudez had already been transported to the KHMH. While Buller is no stranger to the law, police say that his killing may have been an isolated incident.

“What we know so far, we have two persons detained, they are saying that it was an isolated incident, not gang-related, something that transpired between Buller and these two parties earlier than night, and it would appear that these persons may have followed them and made good on their target,” ASP Fitzroy Yearwood told local media.

He said that the investigators have a “pretty good lead,” but remain tight-lipped on the case. As mentioned, two persons are currently detained, but Yearwood was unable to reveal their identities.
