BELMOPAN, Thurs. Aug. 25, 2022
A 48-year-old American national from California—Steven James Savarda—lost his life on Wednesday evening in a single-car road traffic accident at the entrance of Belmopan in front of the Belmopan branch of Bravo Motors, near the Agriculture Showgrounds.
According to initial police reports, Savarda was exiting Belmopan and heading onto the George Price Highway in his 2014 Audi SUV when, upon reaching between Miles 47 and 48 on the Hummingbird Highway, he reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The SUV then careened into a drain and crashed front-first into a culvert off the right side of the highway in front of Bravo Motors.
When police and medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found Savarda in the driver’s seat and began to make checks on Savarda, who was unresponsive and had no pulse. Savarda’s lifeless body was transported to the Western Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m. that day by medical officers.
