BELIZE CITY, Wed. Mar. 1, 2023
On Wednesday, March 1, the Belize City Council introduced its Youth Connect Student Hub which is located on the ground floor at City Hall and will serve as a platform to assist underprivileged school children from throughout the city and give them access to the digital world.
The Youth Connect Student Hub will serve as an after-school center that will be providing tutoring for primary and high school students by voluntary students from sixth form and university levels who will serve as mentors to the kids.
“This Hub is one of the products of our four core values throughout our administration — youth development, [and] youth empowerment. Through this hub, students will have computers, printers, and other digital tools. They’ll have the stationery, they’ll have the equipment needed to conduct research, they’ll have the equipment needed to study and to do quality assessments,” said the Mayor of Belize City, Bernard Wagner.
“… To take it up a notch, they’ll have access to tutoring, mentoring, support, and the positive socialization that are proven to solidify and amplify a student’s foundation for learning and success,” he added.
The Youth Connect Student Hub can accommodate approximately 20 to 30 kids and will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays.
