Drunk cop accused of stealing money

ORANGE WALK, Mon. Mar. 27, 2023

A video surfaced on social media over the weekend of a police corporal who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol being accused of stealing an undisclosed amount of money from the conductor onboard a passenger bus and declining to surrender the cash.

The incident reportedly transpired on Friday, March 24, on the outskirts of Orange Walk Town.

The video recording began with personnel of the bus standing outside interrogating the alleged drunk cop and demanding that the cop to hand over the stolen money. The footage continues to portray the cop denying any money was stolen, and then admitting he stole the money but then lost it.

Following several seconds of interrogation in the video, the corporal was then escorted by the owner of the bus with the camera continuing to record. At the end of the video, the corporal is seen sitting in a seat, and proceeding to reach into the front section of his pants to retrieve the money.

“I wish I could say what I want to say,” said Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams in frustration. “It’s one of the most embarrassing situations I’ve seen with police. In a situation like that, I wish I could just write a letter and sign it and say that you’re dismissed; but unfortunately, we have a system that requires due process, and so the matter is with PSB,” added Compol Williams.

Commissioner Williams told local reporters that the officer was interdicted from duty as of Monday, March 27, and charges should be levied upon the officer internally as the bus owners do not want to press criminal charges.

“I don’t think that policeman should ever be allowed to wear a police uniform again,” he said.
