BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 7, 2023

Santiago Castillo Limited (SanCas) has announced the closing of one of its prominent stores on North Front Street, Belize City, “Bottom $”.

Bottom $ first opened its doors to the public back in September, 2005, when, according to a News5 report, owner Santino Castillo had offered that they “are looking to stretch your dollar, which is the slogan we came up with”, and that prices at the Bottom $ store would “be at rock bottom.”

According to the public announcement sent out on Monday, August 7, the business has highlighted the reason for their decision, pointing towards unfair competition, and the change in the market, which they believe wasn’t getting any better.

“We have always committed to giving our customers both value for money and a pleasant shopping experience. However, this comes at a cost, and due to unfair competition, compounded with proposed changes in market conditions which will exacerbate the current situation, the owners decided it was better to close and focus on our other businesses [Save-U in Belize City and the People’s Store in Orange Walk],” the announcement explained.

The announcement closed by thanking their loyal customers for their unwavering support and stating, “To all of you, thank you, thank you. We look forward to giving you the same quality service in our other supermarkets.”

Santino Castillo, director and owner of SanCas, has refrained from further comment on the matter.

Bottom $ is set to officially close its doors on August 31, 2023.
