BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 14, 2023

Corey Kendall Usher, 28, of Belikin Boulevard, Ladyville, Belize District, has been charged for multiple firearms offenses after being found with an unlicensed firearm at the Eruptions Night Club on Saturday, September 9.

Reports indicate that Usher attempted to enter the establishment with a loaded firearm; however, personnel at the nightclub spotted the weapon and alerted patrolling police officers, which later led to him being apprehended in the nightclub’s parking lot.

It was discovered that Usher had hidden a .38 caliber revolver loaded with five live rounds under the waistband of his trousers.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander of the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division, told the media on Tuesday, September 12, during the weekly press briefing that Usher has been arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

In the wake of Usher’s detention by police, the Eruptions Nightclub stated on social media that he had been prohibited from entering the establishment.

“Cory had been banned [before] this occasion [and], therefore was not permitted to enter the establishment last night,” the club’s social media post stated.

When local reporters asked ACP Romero whether there was any knowledge of Usher being banned from the establishment for a previous incident, he denied knowing of such a prohibition.

The Belize Police Department is still uncertain about Usher’s motive for trying to carry a loaded firearm into the nightclub.
