BELIZE CITY, Tues. Nov. 21, 2023
On Friday night, November 17, Gregory Johnson of Jaguar Avenue, 38, a resident of the Fabers Road Extension area of Belize City, became the fourth murder victim in the country in the month of November.
According to initial reports, Johnson had been walking to his home shortly before midnight on Friday, when he encountered a lone gunman who then fired several shots at him. Johnson was severely wounded in the body. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to police reports, Johnson had departed from his home to retrieve a bicycle when he was shot. The gunman then fled from the area in a white car.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander of the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division, confirmed to members of the media that three persons are in police custody in connection with this latest murder.
ACP Romero further mentioned that Johnson’s death was possibly the result of a dispute he had with some persons over several items that allegedly belonged to them.
