Port Layola FC suffered their 3rd consecutive loss in the 2024 CONCACAF Central American Cup when they fell 5-1 to Club Deportivo Aguilas at the “Las Delicias” Stadium in Santa Tecla, El Salvador, on Wednesday afternoon, August 14.
Port’s only goal (34’) came from Honduran import Miguel Garcia’s left foot shot on the edge of the 18-yard box. Rene Leslie, the hero of the first game against Antigua GFC, Andres Orozco, Gilroy Thurton and Latrell Middleton sought more goals, but Aguila’s able goalkeeper, Benji Villalobos, denied their every try.
Aguila already led 2-0 by Brazilian striker Dionatan “Tinga” Machado’s brace (4’ and 18’), and the hosts reasserted their dominance with Colombian Carlos Salazar’s brace (35’ and 37’) to finish two passes from Santos Ortiz. Herberth Diaz came off the bench to score a 5th goal (67’) to complete the rout.
Next Thursday, August 22, Aguila takes on the Honduran champions, CD Olimpia, who crushed Port Layola, 6-1, at the FFB Stadium last Thursday.
Port Layola have one last shot at redemption when they take on Club Atletico Independiente in Panama City next Wednesday, August 21.
